West Egg Cafe

October 28, 2018

Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for any unplanned 3-hour naps that result from eating Shrimp & Grits after reading this post.

Now that that's out of the way: I'm a firm believer that a good meal on Sunday sets the tone for the week ahead.

If you live in Atlanta, you've probably heard someone rave about West Egg Cafe as one of the top brunch spots in the city.
As the Brunch Bandit, it's my duty to investigate such claims.

What I ordered:
  • Shrimp and Grits - without the poached egg.  Spicy pork andouille sausage, tomato white wine butter with pan roasted okra.
  • a biscuit on the side
  • Drink: The house lemonade
This meal was perfect. I have zero complaints. There's nothing I would change.
I normally stay away from dishes with so much sausage but everything was so balanced!
The grits were so smooth! I'm always skeptical about grits because they're very easy to ruin. I'm glad these didn't disappoint!
The shrimp were the perfect size! There's nothing worse than playing hide and go seek with shrimp in your meal.
The okra really complimented the meal, I almost wish there were more!
I'm glad I ordered the biscuit to wipe up the extra sauce. That wasn't my original motive. I love breakfast with some kind of bread, even when I eat apple cinnamon oatmeal.
 I just love bread.

I caught the itis HARD after eating this, so plan accordingly!

The brunch specials!
I wanted to try the cinnamon rolls but I figured that would be doing the most.

Drink menu!
Their mimosas looked pretty good but also seemed very small from what I saw people at other tables holding.
My best friend isn't a drinker else I would have ordered a carafe, which would have been the better deal.

Pro-tip: Use the biscuit to wipe up the excess sauce.
Thank me later.

I love a good fluffy biscuit!
When I worked at Chick-Fil-A (first job) I was so fascinated watching the process of biscuits being made. Something that never got old.
One of these days I'll experiment with making my own.

The breakfast menu!

The full brunch menu!
I almost ordered french toast but wanted a "hefty" meal.
My best friend said the challah french toast was amazing so of course, I'll be back to investigate.

Overall, I had a much better experience this second time around. The first time wasn't terrible, I just didn't see the wow factor. I wasn't a fan of what I ordered the first time (Westside Pileup) and I honestly didn't order what I truly wanted. I'm glad I decided to come back!
It was definitely worth the 1+ hour wait.

If you're planning a trip, I'd suggest going during the week. The first time I went was during the week and there wasn't a wait. Also, every time I drive by during the week it never looks crowded. Today there was a line down the block almost to Lulu Lemon! They don't make reservations over the phone so I'd suggest getting there pretty early + before you're hangry. We got there after church around 11 and as I said previously, the line was long!

I know for sure I'm going back to try out Odd Bird, and when I do, there will be a post about it!
